The Banaras Hindu University boasts of a sprawling campus spread on 1300 acres of land. It has roads that are well maintained and cross each other at right angles. The two domes of the temple were covered by the gold (offered by the Punjab Kesari Maharaja Ranjeet Singh) in 1839.
